FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Asheville Side Show and Burlesque Festival (AABSFest) - June 27-29, 2008
AABSFest celebrates rich American traditions from a by-gone era. A comedic and satirical parody of the higher and more socially conservative classes, Vaudeville and Burlesque slowly declined in popularity with the advent of the motion picture and television. Sideshows bring us back to the pre-commercialized carnival days and headlined a variety of human oddities unrivaled by the acts touted in larger circuses today. Once a rich cultural pastime, these art forms still exist today via subtle integration into modern entertainment. With sensations such as the Yard Dogs Road Show and annual festivals dedicated to these arts popping up all over the country, we knew Asheville would be just the place to give rise to AABSFest. With the invaluable help of Arts2People, AABSFest began in 2007 with resounding success! We are committed to introducing more enthusiasts to these rekindling arts in 2008!
