Areas available in which to volunteer . . .

 

LAAFF: Refer to the LAAFF page for a list of fun activities or bring your own artsy idea to the festival. All areas need volunteers during planning and on the day of the festival. Contact Kitty for more info.

 

Asheville Mural Project: Make community contacts, create new projects, design, paint, and plan! Contact Molly for more info.

 

Teaching Opportunities: We are seeking teachers for three areas. 1) Teach art to the general public. 2) Teach artists career skills. 3) Work with disadvantaged populations using art as a healing tool. Current Arts 2 People Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

 

The Artists’ Alliance of Mountain BizWorks

Ongoing. Part of the REACH program of Arts 2 People. Creates & produces professional development workshops for artists. Meets 4th Wednesday of every month at Mtn Biz, 29 1/2 Page Ave. Responsibilities may include registration, data management, recruiting teachers, designing workshops, writing press releases, contacting caterers, renting space, placing ads, creating flyers, hanging flyers and sending notices via internet. Service requires presence at meetings and keeping up with planning by group via internet and phone.

 

The REACH Steering Committee

Ongoing. Design new programs to meet the mission of the REACH program. Current program focus is class series planned for Summer to work with youth residents of low income/public housing: summer art classes. Responsibilities may include teacher recruitment and management, registration, teaching and assisting, press contact, hosting and assisting.

 

Arts 2 People web site

Ongoing. Interface with program directors to gather news and photos for the website. Submit compiled and organized data to web master, or take on web site management if skill level exists. Keep web copy current. Post and remove events. Creatively build on website ideas, including links.

 

Data management

Ongoing. All programs. Organize the Arts 2 People contact lists. Gather & enter new contacts.

 

The Freaks of Asheville Calendar

A fundraising project. Spring through Fall 2008. Responsibilities may include contacting participants, organizing photo submissions, interface with graphic designers, photographers, printers, digital layout, sales, distribution, press contact, ad layout/placement, sponsorship coordination (acquisition, logos, receipts), tracking sales, collecting money, mailing.

 

The Lexington Avenue Arts & Fun Festival

1) Planning: Spring 2008 through festival date. Varies considerably. Responsibilities vary depending on skill level, interest, and experience. Event is managed in a tiered fashion with areas of responsibility managed by individual section directors. Sections include an art car show, kid’s area, art vending, beer vending, food vending, healers, non-profits, music, performance, operations, underground art show, volunteer coordination, mural, art car painting party, signs and banners, sponsorships, merchandise, media relations, graphic design, pr & marketing, silent auction, water sales, performer hospitality, bicycle circus and artist mini-grants. The above areas have individual instructional documents which are available upon request; some are managed by committee directors. Volunteers can manage an area, assist a manager or volunteer on a committee.

 

2) Festival Day. Saturday September 6th and Sunday September 7th. Set up 7am to 11 am, festival 11am to 10 pm, break down 10 pm to approx midnight. Possible jobs include: assist area managers in specific areas, trash & recycling, info booth, stage management and assistance, traffic control, runner, wristband sales, hang signs and banners, set up and break down, erect and dismantle tents, organize supplies, merchandise sales and backstage hospitality.
